Involuntary Laugher – A New Exhibition Opening July 24, 2010

Involuntary Laughter – It happens on the stage, it happens during funerals, it happens when you slip and fall…and its the kind of laughter you can’t hold back or control. Its the kind of laughter you remember years later and laugh again. Its the orange in my whites.

I think I am getting to a point where, finally, I don’t know what I am doing, and it feels good to let go. The older I get the younger I am becoming, and subsequently the more whimsical my canvases. This is the result of my relationship with my habitat. The flora and fauna I live with daily in my little environment, the music that feeds me and the people, young and old, i share my life with. Then there are the many environments I am constantly exposed to due to my extensive traveling. They expand my horizons, always bringing me back to my little corner, which is a microcosm of that larger world. And so, the social, sensual, emotional, mental, pragmatic abundances I live with find their way onto the canvas.

Join us at the opening reception for Vahe’s new exhibition, “Involuntary Laughter,” on July 24, 2010.

With Sagayn, Berberian has pushed the envelope by finding absurdity and great humor in not just the Armenian, but the human condition in general. With his unique spin on everyday topics such as weddings, religion, Armenian characteristics and everything in between, Berberian will keep you laughing long after the show is over.

Berberian performed Sagayn for three months at The Brandview Collection in Glendale and has taken the show on the road to various cities in the U.S. and abroad to packed audiences. “Sagayn’s success was phenomenal,” says producer Shirinyan, “We had an incredibly diverse audience that simply loved it and kept on coming back for more. The response to the show in the Armenian communities during the tour has been simply sensational.”

The DVD includes extra features, with footage of Vahe in Aleppo, Beirut and Yerevan.

WTF?! Festival – Vahe Paints As Serj Tankian Performs

WTF is WTF?!
WTF Image
The name of this festival came to me after a recent board meeting where I was told that due to the economic downswing and recent reduction in donations that we can no longer afford to produce theater. I was told it would be less expensive to do nothing. We’re not very good at doing nothing. We are offering a wide variety of events that will fire up new audiences, help them to discover The Gang, and support our community outreach. – Tim Robbins, Curator WTF?! Festival ‘09

On Saturday November 7th, Serj Tankian of System of a Down w/Azam Ali, Loga Ramin Torkian, David Alpay and painter Vahe Berberian are set to perform an intimate session at The Actors’ Gang’s 99-seat performance venue. It is bound to be an unforgetable evening as Vahe paints live while the musicians jam. For more details and to purchase tickets visit http://www.wtffestival.theactorsgang.com/index.html.
